LEARN A LITTLE MORE
Amelie Oñate is a Nicaraguan-Cuban fashion designer originally from Miami, Florida. Since childhood, art has been a part of her life on all different levels. Her family’s business, Oñate Framing, is an art gallery and custom framing shop which nurtured her creative side since she was a little girl. In addition to having a strong creative eye, Amelie has developed an environmental consciousness, studying at the well-known environmental school TERRA Environmental Research Institute as a young adult, and learning about the carbon footprints of different industries. As she explored and studied the nature of the fashion industry specifically, she became determined to merge her artistic endeavors to her academic ones and set out to create a sustainable fashion brand. She is also an educator that seeks to spread awareness of the environmental impact of the industry.
Oñate is a graduate of Miami Fashion Institute, with an A.S. in Fashion Design, as well as the Fashion Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Technical Design with a minor in Ethics and Sustainability. Most recently, she has become a graduate of the Istituto Marangoni Miami, where she earned her Masters in Fashion and Luxury Brand Management.
Oñate’s most recent collection, Wabi - Sabi (Beauty in Imperfection), has been featured in international fashion shows in Guatemala, Argentina, and Panama.
